Lower School Early Childhood Classroom Assistant

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Student Support
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing daily routines and play-based learning activities.
- Support individual students or small groups in developing early literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
- Encourage student engagement, independence, and positive interactions with peers.
- Help guide children through transitions and daily classroom routines.
- Reinforce classroom expectations and support positive behavior development.
Care and Well-being of Students
- Support the physical and emotional well-being of young children throughout the school day.
- Assist with basic care needs (e.g., transitions, organization of personal belongings, supervision during snack, bathroom routines as appropriate).
- Maintain a warm, caring, and responsive approach to student needs.
- Monitor student safety during classroom activities, recess, and transitions.
Classroom Environment and Materials
- Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials, learning centers, and resources.
- Assist with set-up and clean-up of classroom activities and learning spaces.
- Ensure that the classroom environment remains safe, clean, and conducive to learning.
- Support the organization of displays, student work, and classroom documentation.
Collaboration and Professional Practice
- Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and Early Years team.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, staff, and families as directed.
- Share observations of student behavior, development, and needs with the teacher.
- Participate in meetings, training sessions, and professional learning opportunities as required.
- Demonstrate professionalism in attendance, punctuality, confidentiality, and conduct.
Certifications and Education
Required
- Bachelor degree.
Desired
- Coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education, Pedagogy, or a related field.
- Training or certification in early childhood care and education.
Experience
Required
- Experience working with young children in a school, childcare, or similar setting.
Desired
- Experience in early childhood or preschool environments.
- Experience working in international or multicultural settings.
- Experience supporting play-based or inquiry-based learning environments.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Proficiency in English.
