Main Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and ELL Team Support

  • Support ELL Teachers during push-in and pull-out instructional sessions.
  • Lead small-group pull-out instruction (e.g., WIN groups) using provided plans across Grades 1–5.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce language learning goals, vocabulary development, and classroom tasks.
  • Support students with diverse academic language needs.
  • Maintain strong classroom management and engagement during small-group instruction.
  • Assist students in understanding ELL support routines and expectations in age-appropriate ways.
  • Help students develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English.

Supporting Students in and out of the classroom setting

  • Help students develop organization, independence, and age-appropriate academic routines.
  • Support student engagement, positive behavior, and confidence in classroom and small-group settings.
  • Assist ELL teachers with the preparation, organization, and adaptation of instructional materials.
  • Supervise students during transitions, learning activities, and ELL-related sessions as needed.
  • Support a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for young multilingual learners.

Collaboration and Professional Practice

  • Proactively check in with ELL teachers and team leader to identify needs.
  • Contribute to team efficiency through strong follow-through and responsiveness.
  • Share observations about student progress, language development, and needs with the ELL Teachers.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and professional learning as required, with a focus on improving practice.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in attendance, punctuality, conduct, and confidentiality.
  • Assist with administrative and organizational tasks related to ELL services, including preparation of materials, assessment support, and documentation.

Systems and Program Support

  • Maintain and update ELL documentation systems, including spreadsheets (e.g., language profiles, WIN groups, tracking data).
  • Prepare, organize, and manage instructional materials (printing, copying, digital files).
  • Maintain and organize shared folders, files, and resources for the ELL team.
  • Support team efficiency by anticipating logistical needs and ensuring materials and systems are ready in advance.

Certifications and Education

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Desired

  • Coursework or degree in Education, English, Linguistics, TESOL, Pedagogy, or a related field.
  • Training or experience working with multilingual learners or elementary-aged students.

Experience

Required

  • Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or youth-focused setting.
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers and staff in support of student learning.

Desired

  • Experience supporting English Language Learners in elementary or Lower School settings.
  • Experience working in international or multicultural environments.
  • Experience supporting students in inclusive or language-learning environments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required

  • Proficiency in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with young children.
  • Ability to support students in structured and unstructured learning environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and a supportive, developmentally responsive approach.
  • Ability to manage small groups of students independently with appropriate classroom management
  • Organizational and data management skills (e.g., spreadsheets, tracking systems)
  • Comfort with basic educational technology tools (e.g., Google Workspace).

Desired

  • Proficiency in another language (e.g., Portuguese or others) is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of second-language acquisition principles.
  • Ability to support students with diverse learning and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience working in structured, team-based educational environments

Overview
Graded is a private, co-educational, non-sectarian, non-profit American day school serving an international community of approximately 1315 students, ages 3-18. The school follows an American curriculum with instruction in English and is accredited in the United States through AdvancED and in Brazil by the Ministry of Education. The school has three divisions:

Lower School, K3 to Grade 5
Middle School, Grades 6-8
High School, Grades 9-12

The Lower School consists of the Montessori Pre-primary School (K3-K5) and the Elementary School (Grades 1-5). The High School program is college preparatory, and all graduates receive an American High School Diploma. Seventy-five percent of students earn an International Baccalaureate Diploma. A Brazilian High School Diploma is also offered, and 49% of graduating seniors receive all three.
