Main Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Student Learning

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate physical education lessons for lower school students.
  • Teach fundamental movement skills, coordination, balance, fitness concepts, and age-appropriate games.
  • Promote physical literacy, cooperation, sportsmanship, and respect through structured and unstructured activities.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse physical abilities, developmental stages, and learning needs of students.
  • Integrate health, wellness, and safety concepts into physical education instruction.
  • Encourage student engagement, confidence, and enjoyment in physical activity.

Assessment and Feedback

  • Use formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor student progress in physical skills and fitness.
  • Provide constructive, age-appropriate feedback to support student growth and self-awareness.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation, skill development, and progress.
  • Communicate student progress and expectations with families as appropriate.

Learning Environment and Safety

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment that supports student well-being and risk-appropriate physical activity.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and supervision of facilities and equipment.
  • Follow school policies and best practices related to safety, supervision, and injury prevention.
  • Promote respect, inclusion, and positive behavior in all physical education settings.

Collaboration and Professional Practice

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and student support staff to support holistic student development.
  • Participate actively in grade-level meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
  • Support school events, athletics days, and community activities as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in attendance, punctuality, conduct, and communication.


Certifications and Education

Required

  • Teaching degree in Physical Education (Licenciatura em Ed. Física).
  • CREF registration.

Desired

  • Master’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or related discipline.
  • First Aid, CPR, and child safety certification.
  • Training in physical literacy or inclusive physical education practices.


Experience

Required

  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching physical education to young children.

Desired

  • Experience in international or multicultural school environments.
  • Experience adapting physical education for students with diverse needs.
  • Experience supporting school-wide wellness initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate physical education pedagogy.

Sobre Graded - The American School of São Paulo

Overview
Graded is a private, co-educational, non-sectarian, non-profit American day school serving an international community of approximately 1315 students, ages 3-18. The school follows an American curriculum with instruction in English and is accredited in the United States through AdvancED and in Brazil by the Ministry of Education. The school has three divisions:

Lower School, K3 to Grade 5
Middle School, Grades 6-8
High School, Grades 9-12

The Lower School consists of the Montessori Pre-primary School (K3-K5) and the Elementary School (Grades 1-5). The High School program is college preparatory, and all graduates receive an American High School Diploma. Seventy-five percent of students earn an International Baccalaureate Diploma. A Brazilian High School Diploma is also offered, and 49% of graduating seniors receive all three.
